Becoming a Client

Intake Assessment
Our Intake Assessment is the first step in welcoming a new client and pet into the PetPals family. During this visit, we take the time to learn your pet’s routines, temperament, and care needs while also reviewing home access, safety preferences, and any medical or behavioral notes. This is a low-pressure, relationship-building appointment designed to ensure your pet is set up for consistent, comfortable care from day one. This meeting is typically 30-45min.

Our Two-Person Approach
To support consistent coverage and stronger communication, your first Intake Assessment is led by two members of our team: your Primary Pal and a Support Pal. All Pals you meet are expected to provide the full range of coverage and support, but may operate in different roles. This pairing structure allows us to:

  • Strengthen quality control and consistency across all future visits. If you no longer have two available Pals on the team, we will reach out to connect you to someone new the next time you book services.

  • Build shared familiarity with your pet and household setup - depending on the Pals role (dog walker, overnight, pet taxi driver)

  • Guarantees smooth backup coverage during vacations, schedule changes, or emergencies - We will facilitate the coverage and management of scheduling for your, so you dont have to worry about finding a last minute sitter while you’re on vacation.

  • Reduce onboarding delays by ensuring more than one team member can confidently step in when needed.

Clients often tell us this approach gives them added confidence knowing their pet is cared for by a coordinated, reliable team—not just a single individual. It’s part of our long-term commitment to safety, continuity, and high-quality care for every home we serve.

Drop-In Care
Drop-In Care provides reliable, flexible support for household pets. These visits are designed around your pet’s routine—feeding, water refresh, relief breaks, medication needs, and companionship—while maintaining a calm, predictable environment. This service is booked when clients are unavailable, where pals take on additional home care responsibilities.

Supporting Care Goals
Our role, is to help maintain the goals and home routines you have built, by helping pets and humans adapt to new or old routines. During onboarding, we work with you to define what each drop-in visit should accomplish. This may include timing-specific feeding routines, energy management for younger pets, structured indoor play, split care of a dog walk and feeding, or quiet reassurance for seniors. Clear goals ensure that each visit supports your pet’s individual needs rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all model.

Security & Home Safety
Drop-ins involve more home care security practices. Our team follows defensive handling practices—mindful door control, leash checks, safe yard monitoring, and careful situational awareness. This approach is designed to prevent escapes, avoid hazards, and ensure a controlled, low-stress visit for pets of all personalities and ages.

Long-Term Support
For pets who benefit from structured rhythms, drop in care provides day and night support. This includes consistent arrival windows, familiar handling cues, and predictable visit flow, with familiar faces. These routines help reduce stress, support behavior stability, and build trust—especially for pets who are shy, elderly, or adjusting to new environments. Over the long run, drop-ins become a secure part of their daily schedule, that is maintained across a reliable team.

Dog Walking Services
Our dog walking services are designed to keep your pup active, stimulated, and supported throughout the day. Each walk is tailored to your dog’s pace, personality, and routine—whether they thrive on a brisk neighborhood loop, a gentle sniff-led stroll, or focused exercise to burn energy. We prioritize safety, consistency, and enrichment on every outing, with real-time updates so you always know how your pet is doing.

Setting Walking Goals
We collaborate with you to set walking goals tailored to your dog’s age, energy level, and behavior. This may include exercise targets, leash-manners support, mental enrichment, or pacing adjustments as your dog grows or their needs change. These goals guide our approach and help track your dog’s progress over time. Every service, you’ll recieve written report cards detailing your pets baseline behavior during that visit.

Defensive Dog Walking
Safety is at the core of our work. Our team practices defensive dog walking techniques that prioritize controlled routes, situational awareness, and minimizing unnecessary encounters with unfamiliar dogs, distractions, or hazards. This method helps prevent overstimulation and keeps walks calm, predictable, and secure—especially for reactive, shy, or high-energy pups.

Long-Term Routines
Dogs thrive on structure, and we build long-term routines that support stability. We maintain consistent timing, walking patterns, and handling methods so your dog knows exactly what to expect. This creates comfort, reinforces positive habits, and strengthens your dog’s relationship with our team - naturally training your dog through repetitive positive reinforcement based practices. Over time, this routine becomes a dependable part of your dog’s daily life. Ask about setting up a Template!

Boarding Care

Boarding care is where dogs spend the day, night, or week, at one of our Pals homes. To book this service a meet and greet within the clients home must be facilitated for initial introductions. A secondary meet and greet will be facilitated in the Pals home, with the client and (optional) the pet in question. Not all Pals offer this service, but those that do must be certified, licensed, and privately insured to provide this service package.

Boarding Care provides a structured, supervised stay in a PetPals host home. Pets join a safe, home-based environment with tailored routines, regular exercise, and attentive daily monitoring. This option is well-suited for social pets who enjoy a change of scenery or need a more hands-on setting than traditional kennels. All care takes place in the host’s home rather than the client’s.

Our Overnight Care keeps your pet in the comfort of their own home with a dedicated Pal staying through the night. This service is ideal for pets who thrive on familiar surroundings, consistent routines, and minimized stress.

Your sitter provides evening and morning care, maintains household rhythms, and offers companionship throughout the night—allowing your pet to rest comfortably in their own space.

Out Pals use your home as “Home Base” as often as possible. Our packages are designed to provide affordable, consistent routines.

Packages are window based which means pet-sitters may choose to stay between check ins, or they may choose to leave momentarily to grab food, run a quick errand, provide other services for your neighbors, before returning home to your pets. Pals must uphold the standard of care potty window as dictated by the package at minimum.
